Summary
Gastro Virginia is a growing, GI-focused Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) organization with an exciting opportunity for a Endoscopy Technician to join our fast-paced endoscopy center. Reporting to the Charge Nurse, you will utilize your core skills in physiology, anatomy, and medical imaging to ensure patient safety and comfort. Your expertise in aseptic technique and medical terminology will be essential in maintaining a sterile environment. Holding a BLS certification, you will be prepared to respond to emergencies and contribute to high-quality patient care. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help open and stand up a new center—strong candidates will help shape our workflows from day one.
Must be willing to travel between Gastro Virginia locations: Fairfax and Alexandria.
Responsibilities
- Assists the physician with endoscopic procedures.
- Assists with ensuring the center is properly prepared for the daily schedule.
- Sterilization of equipment and high-level disinfection.
- Cleaning the surgical suite between cases.
- Opening of sterile packs, instruments, and supplies; ensuring a clean environment is maintained throughout the procedure.
- Preparing the set-up of all procedure cases.
- Ensuring the physician identifies and describes each specimen before it is placed in the container, and confirm the anatomic site verbally whenever there is any ambiguity.
- Reporting and troubleshooting all broken or defective supplies or equipment.
- Checking and restocking the center.
- Operates and maintains documentation for Medivator and Autoclave.
- Assesses the condition of all equipment, instruments, and accessories daily and reports any irregularities to the Nurse Manager.
- Coordinates rooms and scopes according to the daily schedule.
- Properly disposes of contaminated waste following Standard Precautions and OSHA regulations.
- Takes an active role in identifying issues for quality improvement.
- Floats across the patient care pathway as needed—starting IVs, taking vital signs, turning over and "flipping" beds between cases, transporting patients, and supporting Pre-Op and PACU during peak volume.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of and hands-on experience with Fujifilm (Fuji) endoscopes and Advantage Plus Medivator.
- Current BLS certification.
- Reliable transportation to work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in outpatient surgery, PACU, or perioperative care.
- Familiarity with infection control and sterile processing standards.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or equivalent reprocessing certification.
- Prior experience opening or launching a new surgery center or endoscopy suite.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Standing and walking for the majority of an 8–10 hour shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and fine motor manipulation.
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds and to push/pull equipment carts and towers.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, chemical disinfectants, formalin, and latex; PPE provided and required.
- Work in a controlled procedural environment with sustained noise from AER units and suction.

Schedule
- Fast-paced endoscopy center, open Monday through Friday. No weekends or on-call.
- First procedure begins at 7:30 AM; staff start time is 6:45 AM.
- Potential 8–10 hour days.
