This position is responsible for:
Assisting with loading, unloading, and sorting donations; moving donations and other materials into the warehouse; and assisting in the set-up, clean-up, and breakdown of the warehouse. He/she may also act in the capacity of a Truck Helper or Driver as needed.
Assists in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items.
Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels regularly; and provides repair work, as needed.
Collects and empties trash for the warehouse area; assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the warehouse area; sweeps the floor and cleans the bathrooms.
Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures
Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Help Social Services with freezers and keeping them clean and stocked.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The working environment is a warehouse without air conditioning and with a cement floor, where a majority of the day is spent. Temperatures vary in the winter and in the summer. There is an air-conditioned warehouse for equipment storage and office space. The position involves going in and out of the air-conditioned space into the warehouse throughout the day.
Ability to lift scales, hand trucks, and dollies
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking

High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required; one (1) year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van such as a box truck; OR
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
