Safety Coordinator - Position Summary
A growing construction services organization is seeking a Safety Coordinatorto support large-scale construction projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and execution of safety programs across assigned projects. This role assists in maintaining compliance with safety standards, conducting inspections, and supporting safety initiatives that promote a safe and secure work environment. The Safety Coordinator works closely with safety leadership and field personnel to support day-to-day safety operations, including jobsite monitoring, training coordination, and safety documentation. This position plays a key role in reinforcing safe work practices and contributing to a strong safety culture across project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with implementation of project safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Support jobsite safety audits, inspections, and hazard identification activities
- Monitor jobsites for compliance with applicable safety standards and communicate findings to safety leadership
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, including reports, logs, and inspection records
- Support enforcement of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Collaborate with safety and operations teams to identify and communicate potential safety concerns
- Observe jobsite activities and escalate unsafe conditions or behaviors when necessary
- Assist with coordination of safety-related activities across active projects
- Support safety planning efforts by gathering information and assisting with implementation
- Coordinate and facilitate safety orientations and training sessions
- Promote safety awareness and reinforce safe work practices among field personnel
- Encourage open communication regarding safety concerns and support a positive safety culture
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and project startup activities
- Assist with gathering information and documentation related to safety incidents
- Support preparation of incident reports and related safety documentation
- Track safety metrics and help ensure timely and accurate reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field Preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of safety experience required, preferably within construction, industrial, or similar environments
- Experience supporting safety audits, inspections, investigations, or reporting activities preferred
- Familiarity with construction processes and active jobsite environments preferred
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification required, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Basic understanding of construction safety practices, regulations, and hazard recognition
- Ability to identify risks and follow established safety procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced field environment
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Work is performed in a combination of office settings and active construction jobsites
- Frequently move throughout jobsites to inspect work areas, identify hazards, and verify compliance with safety requirements
- Occasionally ascend and descend ladders and traverse uneven terrain
- Position oneself to conduct inspections, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
- Operate a computer and other office equipment for documentation, reporting, and communication
- Frequently communicate with employees, subcontractors, clients, and leadership teams
- Ability to detect, identify, and assess potential safety hazards in varying environments
- May move or transport safety equipment and materials as needed
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to travel between project locations; occasional overnight travel may be required
- Valid driver's license required
