Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Service Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on technical expertise, a commitment to quality workmanship, and a genuine passion for the automotive industry. This role requires the ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle systems, perform routine maintenance, and serve as a mentor and resource for junior technicians. The right individual will thrive in a fast-paced shop environment while maintaining a professional, welcoming attitude toward customers and colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engine removal and replacement, including diagnosis of related mechanical failures
- Conduct transmission removal, replacement, and associated drivetrain repairs
- Service, evacuate, recharge, and diagnose automotive A/C systems
- Execute general repairs and preventative maintenance including brakes, suspension, steering, fluid services, and tire rotations
- Accurately diagnose vehicle concerns using scan tools and diagnostic equipment
- Complete repair orders with clear, detailed documentation of work performed
- Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to entry-level and apprentice technicians
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work bay in compliance with shop standards
- Communicate professionally with service advisors and customers regarding repair findings and recommendations
- Stay current with manufacturer technical service bulletins (TSBs) and industry best practices
Skills for Success
The following qualifications and attributes are essential to performing this role effectively:
Certifications & Technical Expertise
- ASE Certified (one or more areas) or actively working toward ASE certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in engine remove and replace procedures
- Demonstrated proficiency in transmission remove and replace procedures
- Certified or experienced in automotive A/C system service (EPA 609 a plus)
- Solid foundation in general repairs and maintenance across multiple vehicle makes and models
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on automotive service experience
- Experience working for a franchise dealership or independent repair facility required
Interpersonal & Leadership
- Personable, approachable, and professional in all interactions with customers and team members
- Welcoming demeanor that contributes positively to the shop culture
- Demonstrated ability to train and lead other technicians, including apprentices and junior staff
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or other language) is a plus and highly valued
Minimum Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Personal set of professional automotive tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle repair
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in varying shop conditions
- High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical school training preferred
