The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing the performance of company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports daily field operations by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues, and documenting all inspections and repairs. The Fleet Mechanic works closely with our Operations Manager(s) to keep equipment in top condition, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with all state and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
Reporting & Coordination
- Reports directly to the Operations Manager(s) and coordinates daily service priorities and equipment needs.
Preventive Maintenance
- Keeps equipment available and operational by inspecting and testing vehicles and machinery. Performs preventive maintenance including engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations and replacements, wheel balancing, and filter changes.
Repairs & Diagnostics
- Maintains optimal vehicle and equipment performance by:
- Listening to operator concerns and troubleshooting issues.

Conducting full system inspections.

Repairing or replacing faulty components, including engine failures, mechanical systems, electrical malfunctions, and body damage.
Recordkeeping & Compliance
- Maintains accurate vehicle and equipment service records. Completes all necessary state and federal DOT reporting and ensures compliance standards are met.
Shop & Equipment Maintenance
- Keeps shop equipment functioning by following proper operating procedures, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supply inventory, and initiating outside repairs when necessary.
Cost Control
- Helps manage repair costs by leveraging warranty options and evaluating the most cost-effective parts and service solutions.
Inventory & Supplies
- Ensures necessary supplies are stocked by monitoring inventory, placing orders, and verifying incoming shipments.
Training & Technical Knowledge
- Continuously builds technical expertise by participating in training opportunities and staying current with industry publications and technical updates.
Required Skills
- Massachusetts Hoisting License 3C required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to pass DOT drug screen and background check
- Must tolerate all weather conditions
- Must be punctual and dependable
- Must be a persistent problem solver
