Job Summary
What is Duck Duck Bottle Shop?
It’s a unique opportunity to be part of something different in Omaha. It’s an exclusively outdoor bar set behind a 100 year old house in the historic neighborhood of Dundee. But it’s bringing something to the area that doesn’t exist in abundance - with a small performance stage, a backyard full of native plants, rare teas, outdoor cocktails, and a killer wine list built for the season. We’re the opposite of pretentious but take pride in our menu, being creative and above the standard. We are outside, so if you love to be outside, you will love the space.
What makes Duck Duck Bottle Shop's nighttime program unique for Omaha?
- We care a lot about our menu, plants, and community. You’ll be a part of the fabric of Omaha/Dundee.
- We're offering a range of teas that aren't currently served here in Omaha. The only bar program in the city that treats tea like wine.
- Duck Duck Bottle Shop has an active creative programming calendar from small music acts, to readings, and unique clubs that don’t yet exist in the city.
- There are books (weird lit, art, and novels) and wine bottles downstairs that club members can access, which helps drive loyal customer bases. It also supports local indie bookstores
- We take pride in having the most "climate-first" wine program in the city
- We make a lot of our own stuff (syrups, shrubs, and more) so there's a lot of soul that goes into our offering
- We stand for equal rights, and being good stewards of the earth, including taking care of animals and the planet. We feature the only climate-first wine club and list in Omaha and have thought through all the ways we can be more sustainable as a bar operation. If you value these things, you’ll love the place.
Benefits of the role:
- We offer tips on top for our staff.
- Tea brewer training—we'll teach you everything you need to know about our rotational tea program and how to brew it. You'll learn from approachable experts in the space.
- We're just getting started, so you'll be in at the ground floor and a core part of what makes us successful—plenty of growth opportunity and ways to bring your creative energy given the stage we're at in our journey.
- Book discounts
What we expect from you:
- You are the face of Duck Duck Bottle Shop. The person that people love to chat with and learn from. We have a unique menu that comes with storytelling across the board. You love to educate people on what makes a certain item interesting. You listen to people and are geniunely curious to hear more about people.
- Show up on time and be a dependable teammate.
- Strong work ethic. You are happy to help do dishes at closing time because it needs to get done.
- Be kind, knowledgeable, and approachable for our customers.
- Be curious and super willing to learn and become an expert on the espresso drinks and tea.
What Makes Duck Duck Bottle Shop Unique?
- We're locally owned—in fact, the owners live in a house right down the street, so we are embedded in the community and will never push you to just make money. We care about the Dundee strip, the city, and the space and our place within it.
- Everything we do is a reflection of our core values—and you can check out our website to see what those are. We're trying to be one of the more sustainable establishments in the city, and that exists in our choices of suppliers, compost operations, energy usage, and much more. We're against hate and believe animals should be treated well. If you're into this stuff, you'll love it here.
- We pride ourselves on what we call being "first and only" in Omaha, always striving to bring things to the city that we don't currently have.
- We're completely outdoors and welcome others who want to embrace the elements with us. On beautiful days and not-so-beautiful days, we will find ways to make people comfortable outside.
- We have a lovable performance stage that will feature storytelling, light music, readings, and whatever else we dream up.
Shifts
- Looking for someone that can cover shifts from ~8am-3pm Thursday-Sunday.
Experience:
- We’re looking for someone that’s interested in being on the floor welcoming people in, taking orders, running drinks/food, and occasionally helping the staff brew tea and do the dishes.
