Become a Locksmith — We’ll Train You!
Austin, TX | Paid Training | Monday–Friday | Typical Tech Earnings: $700–$1,000/Week
No locksmith experience required. Work ethic definitely required.
Mr. Rekey Locksmith has been opening doors since 1995, and we’re looking for someone in Austin who wants to learn a skilled trade and build a long-term career.
Before you apply, let’s practice a little mutual discernment. You’re deciding if we’re right for you, and we’re deciding if you’re right for us.
Are you naturally good with your hands?
Locksmithing is a mechanical trade.
If you have experience with mechanics, maintenance, construction, repairs, tools—or you’re simply the person everyone calls when something needs fixing—you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
No professional experience with tools? That’s okay. We can teach locksmithing. Mechanical curiosity and willingness to learn are harder to teach.
Are you someone people can count on?
We need someone reliable, punctual, and genuinely ready to work.
Life happens. We’re human too.
But customers have appointments and teammates depend on you. So if Mondays mysteriously make you sick, Fridays regularly become personal emergencies, or your alarm clock is your greatest professional adversary, this probably isn’t your job.
If you’re thinking, “Well… obviously I show up when I’m scheduled,” keep reading.
About your vehicle — please read this part
You will use YOUR OWN vehicle for work. We do not provide company vehicles.
You’ll drive between customer appointments and carry your tools and equipment with you, so a reliable personal vehicle is required.
If putting work-related mileage on your vehicle is a dealbreaker, no hard feelings—this simply isn’t the right fit.
Austin is our busiest branch and has our largest team of technicians, so the territory is shared among multiple techs. Will you still drive? Absolutely.
Teleportation has unfortunately not made it into our benefits package yet.
We’ll teach you locksmithing
Training is paid.
You’ll start with an introduction to the fundamentals and then train hands-on alongside experienced locksmiths at real customer jobs.
You’ll learn tools, hardware, techniques, troubleshooting, and customer service—the things you actually need to become a locksmith.
We invest significant time, money, and experienced technician hours into training each person, so we’re looking for someone who sees this as a career opportunity, not a temporary stop.
A minimum one-year commitment after training is required.
What can you expect to earn?
Once trained and working independently, our Austin technicians typically earn approximately $700–$1,000 per week.
This is a commission-based position, so earnings vary based on workload, completed jobs, and individual productivity. The $700–$1,000 range reflects what our Austin technicians generally earn and is not a guaranteed weekly amount.
And no—you don’t have to go hunt down customers.
We provide the appointments and the work. This is NOT a sales job.
