Faculty typically teach 23-25 credits per academic year and engage in advising, service, and professional activities consistent with Bluffton University expectations. Appointments may include additional teaching and/or administrative responsibilities as appropriate. Specific appointment terms, workload expectations, and related policies are defined at the time of appointment.
The Assistant Professor of Education is a tenure track position. The successful candidate will teach education courses and general curriculum courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Expertise/experience in mathematics curriculum and instruction is preferred but not required.
- Teach in the undergraduate, graduate education and general education program. Supervise student teachers.
- Provide undergraduate and graduate students high quality instruction demonstrating best practices in planning, teaching, and assessing.
- Work as part of a collaborative team.
Course load would depend upon the candidate, but could include:

- EDU 303 Computers and Technology in Education
- EDU 321 Curriculum and instruction: Math
- EDU 332 Social and Philosophical Issues in Education
- EDU 333 Urban Education Experience
- EDU 336 Teaching and Assessing Reading and Writing
- edTPA Support
- Placements for Methods and Student Teaching
- Student Teaching Supervision
Minimum:
- Doctorate in Education or related field.
- Master’s degree considered for non-tenure track appointment.
- Successful experience teaching special education in the P-12 schools.
- Experience teaching in higher education (not required, but preferred)
Skill/Abilities:
Proficiency in or ability to learn learning management system software (Moodle). Ability to integrate technology into classroom teaching and learning.
Primarily a sedentary position. Some occasional travel off campus will be needed for conferences and/or off campus meetings.
Commensurate with experience.
