Host/Hostess Job Description
Qualifications
- Warm, friendly, outgoing, professional; reliable and trustworthy
- Strong verbal communication and active-listening skills
- Ability to stay calm and organized during busy rushes and waitlists
- Basic computer/POS and reservation system skills
- Versatility, flexibility and willingness to work with enthusiasm through changing priorities
- Must be able to remain standing and actively working for up to 8 hours with limited breaks
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (high chairs, supplies)
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Food Handler's certificate (will provide)
- Prior customer service or hospitality experience is a plus
Duties and Responsibilities
(include but not limited to)
Guest Arrival & Seating
- Greet every guest warmly upon arrival
- Manage waitlist and accurately quote wait times
- Seat guests according to server rotation and table availability
- Present menus and communicate any specials or 86'd items
Phone & Reservations
- Answer phone calls promptly and professionally
- Take, confirm, and manage reservations
- Relay large-party or special-occasion notes to the floor team
Front-of-House Upkeep
- Keep host stand, entryway, and waiting area clean and organized
- Maintain accurate table/floor chart throughout the shift
- Restock menus, waitlist supplies, and to-go materials
Customer Service
- Handle guest questions or concerns with kind, calm service
- Assist with to-go orders and payments at the front when needed
- Escort or direct guests leaving the restaurant, thanking them for visiting
Hours & Compensation
- Part time
- Must be available to work most but not all: weekends, holiday periods, and special events
- Compensation is $10–$13 per hour
Pay: From $10.00 per hour
