Part-Time Receptionist & Adoption Counselor
The Humane Society of Blue Ridge is looking for a friendly, compassionate Part-Time Receptionist & Adoption Counselor to join our team.
As one of the first people visitors meet, you'll help create a welcoming experience while assisting families through the adoption process and supporting the daily operations of our shelter. This role combines customer service, administrative responsibilities and adoption counseling, making it a great fit for someone who enjoys working with both people and animals.

Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors, adopters and community members with friendly, professional customer service.
- Answer phones and respond to questions about adoptions, lost pets, clinic services and shelter programs.
- Guide potential adopters through the adoption process and help them find the right pet for their family.
- Schedule appointments and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with adoption paperwork and other administrative tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming reception area.
- Work closely with shelter staff to ensure visitors receive timely assistance.
- Help create a positive experience for every person who walks through our doors.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working around dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds.
- Ability to work as part of a team while providing compassionate service to the public.
Preferred
- Previous receptionist, customer service or administrative experience.
- Experience working in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic or other animal care setting.
- Knowledge of pet ownership, animal behavior or the adoption process is a plus.

Part-Time
Wednesday through Sunday
12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
