The Natural Grocery is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, personalable and dedicated Cashier responsible for accurately processing customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system while providing prompt, friendly, and courteous service. This role ensures correct handling of payments, pricing, accuracy, and adherence to store policies regarding cash handling, returns, and customer interaction. The cashier maintains a clean and organized checkout area, assists with restocking front-end supplies, and supports other departments as needed. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Responsibilities
- Greet and respond to customer inquiries in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Accurately scan and ring up items using POS system; handle cash, credit/debit card, and other transactions.
- Ensure proper bagging of groceries, offering assistance as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the checkout area, including counters, belts, and register supplies.
- Monitor product pricing and promotions to ensure accuracy during checkout.
- Adhere to store policies on cash handling, returns and exchanges.
- Face store throughout the day to ensure shelves are clean and presentable for customers.
- Maintain awareness of loss prevention practices and report any suspicious activity
- Safely and responsibly operate the store equipment (i.e. hand trucks, stocking and box cutters) and follow all safety procedures.
- Follow all store policies and procedures, including food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist with stocking and front-end displays as needed.
- Provide backup support to other departments when required.
Qualifications
- Previous cashier or retail experience preferred but not required.
- Strong math and basic computer skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Regular standing, lifting, bending, reaching, and walking required.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible with availability.
Work Environment
- Repetitive motion includes scanning, bagging, and operating cash register.
- Fast-paced grocery store environment with exposure to coolers, freezers, dry storage, and outdoor weather.
- Physical: Ability to withstand continuous standing, walking, sitting, reaching and kneeling as well as ability to carry items up to 25 lbs. Other physical environments may include working in tight spaces and exposure to heat and cold.
- Occasional contact with bulk products containing allergens (i.e., nuts, soy, wheat).
Shifts and Availability
- Flexible availability, must be open to working any shifts between Monday and Sunday, morning or evenings, weekends and holidays.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.61 - $24.75 per hour
