Performs independent inspection in all fields and produces reports relating to those inspections on design build/special projects. Works with consultant staff to ensure that the required testing/inspection is performed according to testing requirements. Performs nighttime inspections. Completes daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports. Submits all reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Assist with developing and monitors warranty items. Utilizes AASHTOware (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) system to generate daily work reports and other reports as needed. Assists Project Manager in generation of monthly estimates and closeout activities such as, but not limited to, final quantities, review of As-Built Plans and final punch list activities. Assists with pre-construction activities associated with design build/special projects such as utility relocation, pre-construction photographs, etc. Performs construction verification surveys and operates survey equipment during these surveys; coordinates surveying needs with consultant staff. Monitors and reviews contractor surveys for compliance. Assists with surveying during the pre-construction phase of a project. Ensures collection and/or collects samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities. Coordinates with consultant staff and contractor to ensure all samples/certifications are obtained. Coordinates with consultant staff and contractors on design build/special projects to ensure that project is being construction in accordance with Contract Documents (e.g. technical proposal, request for proposal, release for construction plans, etc.). Attend monthly and/or weekly project progress meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
