Animal Advocate Pet Hospital in Chicago, IL is looking for one Full Time Certified Veterinary Technician to join our strong team. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual, and hard-working.
The primary purpose of the role is to ensure effective communication with clients, hospital associates, and hospital leadership while performing medical tasks for the betterment of pets in a safe hospital environment.
Role and Responsibilities

Deliver highest level of service as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian in advocating for each pet’s best interest.
- Establish trust that leads to compliance of clients through completing doctor directed education, follow up, adverse event discussion, and medical note documentation.
- Advocate for the pet at all times including adoption of health savings program.
- Ensure thorough, complete, and effective medical history, education, and treatments.
- Create collaboration with hospital team through daily caseload while fostering a positive can-do atmosphere and attitude.
- Support medicine compliant with Illinois State Veterinary Practice Act, Federal and/or State Controlled Substance Laws, Practice Code of Ethics, Practice Standard Operating Procedures, and complete medical record documentation.
- Ensure safety of pets, clients, and other hospital associates by utilizing safe, stress-less techniques and following standard operating procedures of the clinic.
- Strive to partner, complete, and maintain individual development plans focusing on performance metrics and business objectives as well as personal development goals.
- Assist basic surgeries with appropriate anesthesia, monitoring, and pain management.
- Charge for services rendered and products/prescriptions dispensed.
- Always strive to keep open two way communication between all to enhance proactive medicine quality, client engagement, and associate well-being.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Veterinary technician certification or licensure required
Must be able to perform all required skills of AVMA accredited veterinary technology program at a high level maximizing efficiency of tasks

Ability to be resilient to stress by maintaining positive “can do” outlook, rebounding quickly from frustrations and unpleasantness maintaining composure and friendly demeanor while dealing with stressful situations.
- Ability to be confident around pets as exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
- Client needs and work volume may require longer hours than the shifts scheduled including evening and weekend work
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as carry/move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Noise level in the environment can be moderately high
- Must have mental processes for remembering, reasoning, communicating, mathematics to perform duties proficiently
Computer technology skills including being able to type and work at a computer for long periods of time
