Job Overview
The Uniform Room Attendant/Alterationist supports hotel operations by maintaining organized, service-ready uniform room operations while performing approved garment repairs, alterations, and fittings. This role is responsible for issuing, collecting, sorting, tracking, inspecting, altering, labeling, and organizing team member uniforms to help ensure each team member has clean, properly fitted, professional attire that meets hotel standards.
Job Responsibilities
Uniform Room Operations, Alterations & Organization

Maintain the uniform room, alteration area, storage areas, shelves, racks, sewing supplies, equipment, and workspaces in a clean, organized, safe, and service-ready condition.

Issue, receive, sort, hang, fold, label, and organize team member uniforms according to hotel standards, department needs, and established inventory procedures.

Inspect uniforms for cleanliness, damage, stains, missing buttons, broken zippers, hem issues, sizing concerns, or other repair and replacement needs.

Perform approved basic alterations and repairs, including hemming, button replacement, minor seam repairs, appropriate zipper or snap support, patching, adjustments, and other garment maintenance within skill level and hotel standards.

Maintain accurate uniform inventory and alteration records, including assigned items, returned items, repairs completed, items pending repair, damaged items, shortages, and replacement needs.
Uniform Distribution, Fittings, Collection & Inventory Support

Distribute clean uniforms to team members and collect soiled, returned, exchanged, or repair-needed uniforms in accordance with hotel procedures.

Assist team members with uniform fittings, sizing checks, approved exchanges, and basic alteration requests to support proper fit and professional presentation.

Coordinate with laundry or designated vendors to support timely cleaning, return, repair, alteration, and availability of uniforms.

Communicate uniform shortages, sizing needs, damaged items, supply concerns, equipment issues, or inventory discrepancies to the appropriate leader.
Team Member Service & Communication

Assist team members in a warm, professional, and respectful manner when issuing, exchanging, fitting, altering, or collecting uniforms.

Support team members with basic uniform-related questions, sizing needs, replacement requests, approved alteration requests, and department uniform standards.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling team member uniform records, assignments, measurements, alteration requests, and related information.

Communicate clearly with department leaders, housekeeping, laundry, and team members to help ensure uniforms are available, properly fitted, repaired timely, and aligned with service expectations.
Safety, Compliance & Standards

Follow hotel procedures for safety, sanitation, laundry handling, chemical handling, lifting, storage, inventory, alterations, sewing equipment, and uniform room operations, and comply with company policies and department guidelines.

Use assigned safety equipment and follow safe work practices when handling uniforms, carts, racks, shelving, cleaning supplies, laundry bags, sewing tools, steamers, irons, or related equipment.

Promptly report unsafe conditions, spills, damaged equipment, sewing machine or equipment concerns, storage hazards, security concerns, injuries, and incidents.

Complete required training as assigned, including uniform room, housekeeping, laundry, garment care, sewing equipment, safety, sanitation, chemical handling, security response, human trafficking awareness, and workplace violence prevention training.
Accurately follow procedures for documenting uniform issuance, returns, exchanges, fittings, repairs, alterations, damaged items, inventory counts, and related records when required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous hotel, housekeeping, laundry, uniform room, linen room, inventory, garment care, sewing, tailoring, alteration, guest service, or related hospitality experience is preferred. Basic sewing or alteration experience is strongly preferred.

Physical requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, sort, hang, fold, measure, pin, alter, and organize uniforms for extended periods.

Frequent lifting and carrying of uniforms, garment bags, laundry bags, supplies, sewing materials, and related items up to 50 lbs.

Continuous physical activity throughout shift in uniform room, laundry, storage, alteration, back-of-house, and nearby operating areas.

Ability to push and pull loaded uniform carts, laundry carts, racks, bins, and related materials, which may require significant force depending on weight, flooring, and distance.

Ability to work in indoor environments with possible exposure to laundry products, cleaning supplies, dust, lint, fabric materials, sewing supplies, steam, heat, and varying room temperatures.

Capacity to perform repetitive sorting, folding, hanging, lifting, carrying, measuring, hand-sewing, machine-sewing, and inventory-related tasks efficiently and safely.
Skills and Abilities:

Strong attention to detail and commitment to organization, cleanliness, uniform fit, garment care, and presentation standards.

Basic sewing, mending, hemming, fitting, measuring, and alteration skills; ability to use sewing equipment and related tools safely and appropriately.

Effective time management and ability to complete assigned uniform room, inventory, repair, alteration, and distribution tasks efficiently while maintaining quality standards.

Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated work ethic with the ability to follow assigned schedules, safety procedures, alteration procedures, inventory procedures, and reporting practices.

Basic communication skills and ability to assist team members in a courteous and professional manner during fittings, exchanges, and uniform-related requests.

Hospitality mindset with the ability to remain friendly, patient, professional, and service-focused when supporting team members and department leaders.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as scheduled; overtime will be handled according to hotel policy and applicable law.

Knowledge of uniform room operations, laundry handling, inventory tracking, garment construction, garment care, sewing machine operation, and basic repair needs is a plus; willingness to complete required safety, sanitation, hospitality, and workplace training.
