Position Title: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) / Executive Function (EF) TeacherDepartment: Special EducationReports To: Assistant Director/Building Principal
Job Summary:Holten-Richmond Middle School is seeking a passionate and skilled SEL/Executive Function Teacher to lead our 6th grade social-emotional learning program and support students in developing the executive function skills they need to succeed across all of their courses. This role combines structured curriculum delivery with personalized, skills-based coaching helping students build self-awareness, self-management, and the organizational and cognitive strategies that underlie academic success.The ideal candidate will facilitate the core 6th grade SEL curriculum using the Wayfinder platform, thoughtfully supplement it with additional lessons and activities to meet the needs of our students, and explicitly teach executive function (EF) skills such as planning, organization, time management, working memory, and task initiation while helping students transfer those skills into their everyday academic work.
Key Responsibilities:SEL Curriculum & Instruction-
Plan and facilitate core 6th grade SEL lessons using the Wayfinder platform, aligned to Wayfinder's belonging- and identity-focused middle school curriculum.

Supplement and adapt Wayfinder lessons with additional activities, discussions, and resources to address the specific needs, interests, and culture of Holten-Richmond's 6th grade students.

Provide targeted SEL/Executive Functioning intervention for 7th and 8th grade students based on data

Create a classroom environment that feels emotionally safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate for early adolescents.

Use Wayfinder's built-in check-ins and progress data (along with other formative assessment) to identify student and class-wide social-emotional needs and adjust instruction accordingly.Executive Function Instruction

Design and deliver direct instruction in core executive function skills, including organization, planning, prioritization, time management, working memory, task initiation, and self-monitoring.

Help students explicitly apply Executive Functioning strategies to real academic tasks managing assignments and long-term projects, organizing materials and notes, preparing for assessments, and breaking down complex tasks across their content-area courses.

Collaborate with content-area teachers to reinforce Executive Functioning strategies across classrooms, ensuring skills generalize beyond the SEL/Executive Functioning class itself.Provide individualized or small-group Executive Functioning support/coaching for students who need more intensive scaffolding.Collaboration & Communication

Partner with school counselors, learning specialists, and grade-level/department teams to support the whole child and align SEL/Executive Functioning instruction with broader student support efforts.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student social-emotional and executive function growth.

Participate in grade-level and team meetings, contributing data and insights from SEL/Executive Functioning instruction to inform student support planning.

Engage in ongoing professional learning related to SEL, executive function, and adolescent development, including Wayfinder-specific training.Data & Continuous Improvement

Track and reflect on student growth in SEL competencies and executive function skills using Wayfinder data and other agreed-upon indicators.

Contribute to the school's broader efforts to define and measure success in SEL/Executive Functioning programming, including providing feedback on curriculum effectiveness and recommending adjustments.Core Competencies
