Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to maintain the appearance of the College campus inside and outside of all buildings and parking lots. This is accomplished by performing surface preparations; maintaining painted surfaces; maintaining flooring; maintaining ceilings; repairing concrete, stucco, and asphalt surfaces; assist with carpentry work as directed; assist with other maintenance duties as directed. This position will be assigned to the Carpenter/Paint Shop and will be required to work at any of the College’s campuses as needed or as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Three (3) years related experience.
Valid Texas Driver License with ability to be insurable by Del Mar College.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade.
Knowledge in the usage of tools, equipment, application techniques for installing or repairing drywall, plaster, stucco, VCT tile, ceramic tile, and masonry surfaces.
Knowledge and skill in handling the types of hazardous materials related to the painting trade including paints, paint strippers, adhesives, etc.
Knowledge of text and display requirements for signage applications.
Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment.
Knowledge and ability to use hand tools and power tools.
Skill in the preparation and application of paints, stains, and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces.
Ability to read blueprints/shop drawings and translate into finished products.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of related full-time painting experience.
Experience with brick, stucco and plaster finish, drywall, ceramic wall tile, floor tile, and countertops.
Experience with VCT and glue down carpet.
Experience with installing ceiling grid and ceiling tile.
Experience with properly handling and storing old/waste paint products for disposal as Universal Waste or Hazardous Waste.
Some carpentry experience preferred.
