Shir Hadash Mission:
The Shir Hadash Early Childhood Center Creates a safe and nurturing Jewish early childhood environment, inspired by the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, rooted in our congregational community and Reform Jewish values, where children are valued as capable individuals that help guide the emergent curriculum.
The ECC welcomes families of all faiths. Membership in Congregation Shir Hadash is not required.
Shir Hadash Early Childhood Center is seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable After School Teacher to join our team. This position works with children ages 4–7 years old, providing a safe, engaging, and enriching after-school experience that encourages curiosity, creativity, and meaningful relationships.
Our program blends play-based learning with Jewish values and traditions, creating a welcoming environment where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired.
Schedule
School Year Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Additional hours are available on:
- Elementary school minimum days and early dismissal days
- Full-day care when the public elementary school is closed (school breaks, staff development days, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Walk to the local elementary school to safely pick up children and escort them back to our campus.
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of children ages 4–7.
- Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Incorporate Jewish traditions, holidays, values, and culture into daily programming.
- Lead enrichment activities including art, science, music, gardening, outdoor exploration, and cooking.
- Organize and supervise neighborhood field trips, including walks to local parks.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom community where children feel respected and encouraged.
- Communicate professionally with families and colleagues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
- Follow all California Community Care Licensing regulations and school policies.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 ECE units (required).
- Experience working with preschool and/or early elementary-aged children.
- Ability to safely supervise children during neighborhood walks and off-campus activities.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, dependable, and collaborative.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must successfully pass all required background clearances.
