About the Opportunity
The Software Developer IV - Aircraft Operations Center (AOC) will serve as the senior technical lead for the architecture, development, modernization, integration, testing, deployment, maintenance, and support of mission-critical applications supporting specialized aircraft and uncrewed aircraft systems in an on-site and remote work environment.
The Software Developer IV - Aircraft Operations Center (AOC) supports aviation and scientific missions including hurricane research and forecasting, atmospheric and remote-sensing operations, environmental assessments, surveys, and emergency response. The successful candidate will provide hands-on software engineering leadership while working closely with technical personnel, operational users, scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and mission-ready software solutions.
What You Will Do in This Role
The Software Developer IV - Aircraft Operations Center (AOC) provides hands-on technical leadership for the architecture, development, modernization, testing, deployment, maintenance, and support of mission-critical software applications while guiding development teams and ensuring reliable, secure, and effective solutions.
Responsiblities include:
- Serve as the senior technical lead for software development, modernization, and sustainment activities supporting mission-critical applications.

Lead application architecture, requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and maintenance, translating operational needs into effective technical solutions.

Provide hands-on technical leadership and direction to software and database developers while remaining actively involved in engineering and troubleshooting.

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using C#, .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET, JavaScript, SQL, Visual Studio, and relational database technologies.

Architect and support databases and application interfaces using SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, APIs, and related technologies.

Lead comprehensive testing, including unit, system, functional, interface, regression, performance, integration/interoperability, and end-user testing.

Conduct architecture and design reviews, code reviews and walkthroughs, test-plan evaluations, and technical documentation reviews to ensure quality and readiness for production.

Manage source-code control, configuration management, change management, release management, deployment, and quality assurance activities.

Troubleshoot mission-critical production applications and provide or coordinate Tier 1–3 technical support to quickly resolve software issues.

Develop and maintain software architecture, configuration, deployment, system support, and user documentation.

Ensure software development and sustainment activities follow Agile practices, CMMI Level 3 standards, and applicable cybersecurity, configuration, and change-management requirements.
What You Will Bring
Required qualifications
-
10+ years of progressive software engineering or application development experience, including 3–5 years in a Software Lead, Technical Lead, Software Architect, Lead Developer, or similar technical leadership role.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related STEM discipline.

Advanced hands-on experience with C#, .NET/.NET Core, JavaScript, SQL, and enterprise database technologies.

Demonstrated experience leading the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Experience designing, developing, and supporting complex, production-level applications and databases.

Strong knowledge of Agile development, software QA/testing, source-code control, configuration and change management, and release management.

Experience supporting secure enterprise or government applications within formal cybersecurity and configuration-control environments.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications

Experience supporting federal government or other highly regulated environments.

Experience with aviation, aircraft operations, uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), scientific computing, environmental systems, remote sensing, or operational mission systems.

Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud application technologies.

Experience with APIs, data integration, DevSecOps, and CI/CD pipelines.

Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I), or comparable Agile certification.

Microsoft, Azure, cloud, or comparable technical certification.
