We are seeking a dedicated School Counselor to join our educational community around Easton, MD. The School Counselor will play a vital role in supporting students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. This position involves providing individual and group counseling, developing intervention strategies, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and external agencies to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of childhood development, behavioral health, and cultural diversity counseling, ensuring that every student receives personalized support to thrive academically and personally.
Duties
- Provide individual counseling sessions to address students’ emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
- Facilitate group counseling activities focused on social skills, conflict management, and emotional regulation.
- Develop and implement intervention plans for students experiencing behavioral or academic challenges.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create supportive classroom environments that promote positive behavior management.
- Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to identify student needs and track progress.
- Coordinate with child protective services and other external agencies to ensure student safety and well-being.
- Offer academic advising to assist students in course selection, career planning, and goal setting.
- Support students facing challenges related to childhood development, behavioral health issues, or cultural diversity.
- Engage in crisis intervention when necessary, providing immediate support for students experiencing mental health crises.
- Promote awareness of mental health resources and facilitate referrals for specialized services such as Christian counseling or social work.
Experience
- Proven experience working with children and adolescents within educational or counseling settings.
- Knowledge of special education practices and familiarity with behavior management techniques.
- Background in mental health counseling, behavioral health, or social work is highly desirable.
- Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions effectively.
- Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and assessment tools used in schools.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders including parents, teachers, administrators, and external agencies.
- Understanding of childhood development stages and cultural diversity considerations in counseling approaches.
- Prior experience working with child welfare systems or child protective services is advantageous.
- Ability to manage conflict professionally while maintaining a respectful environment for all students.
