Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory activities, ensuring adherence to established protocols and regulatory standards such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations.
- Oversee specimen collection, processing, and analysis, including blood banking, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and blood sampling procedures.
- Manage laboratory staff by providing training, mentorship, scheduling, and performance evaluations to promote professional development.
- Ensure quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures are rigorously followed across all laboratory tests and assays including ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, immunoassays, clinical chemistry, hematology, and other specialized techniques.
- Maintain accurate documentation through document management systems and laboratory information management systems (LIS), supporting compliance audits and accreditation processes.
- Oversee inventory management of medical laboratory equipment and supplies while ensuring proper calibration and maintenance.
- Implement data collection strategies for clinical trials or research projects while managing data integrity within laboratory information systems.
- Ensure laboratory safety protocols are strictly followed using aseptic techniques and proper handling of specimens to prevent contamination or exposure.
- Monitor laboratory performance metrics related to turnaround times, accuracy of test results, and compliance with hospital or institutional standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals on specimen collection/processing procedures and support clinical supervision efforts.
- Lead efforts in quality management programs including QA/QC processes to uphold high standards of laboratory testing accuracy.
- Stay current with advances in physiology knowledge, medical terminology, anatomy understanding, and relevant clinical practices to support ongoing staff education.
Skills
- Extensive experience with laboratory techniques such as ELISA, RNA extraction, DNA isolation, PCR amplification, flow cytometry, immunoassays, hematology analyzers, clinical chemistry analyzers, and other diagnostic assays.
- Strong knowledge of medical laboratory work including blood banking procedures, venipuncture (phlebotomy), specimen collection/processing methods.
- Proven leadership skills with experience supervising teams in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with CLIA regulations along with compliance management for medical laboratories.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS), document management systems, and data management tools for accurate record keeping.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology related to clinical chemistry, hematology, physiology, anatomy, vital signs measurement.
- Ability to manage schedules efficiently while overseeing multiple projects or trials simultaneously.
- Skilled in analysis techniques for diverse biological samples ensuring high-quality results through rigorous quality control measures.
- Strong organizational skills combined with attention to detail necessary for maintaining compliance documentation.
- Effective communication skills for training staff members and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams involved in hospital or clinical trial environments.
