Job Summary
The Network Technician position will provide support in resolving network issues for both wired and wireless including troubleshoot and diagnose issues with the goal of continuous improvement of service delivery. This position will be responsible for maintenance and configuration of essential network technologies in local and wide area networking, voice, and wireless with support from Network Administrators.
Key Responsibilities

Professionally manage technical discussions with customers and IT staff and provide technology strategies/solutions based on industry best practices.

Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network mapping and service records.

Capture and analyze packet level data utilizing industry standard tools (i.e. Wireshark).

Configure VoIP phones for deployment or changes to support customers.
-
Create and assign phone numbers as necessary.

Utilize network monitoring and alerting tools such as SolarWinds, AKips, PRTG, and Netflow.
-
Basic configuration of VoIP, core/access switches, routers, firewall and other relevant network infrastructure under guidance of Network Administrators.

Be able to work nights and weekends as needed for job duties.

Resolve errors and alarms and provide timely escalation.

Support Help Desk and other IT staff.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
-
One (1) year of experience in an enterprise IT environment.

A combination of education and work experience may be considered.
Preferred Education/Experience
-
Network+ or other industry standard certifications
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Understanding of TCP/IP including layer 2/3, VLANs, Spanning-Tree Protocol, and basic routing.

Understanding of network cabling and standards including Category 5/6 and fiber optic types.

Teamwork and interpersonal skills.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Clinical Position Requirements
Clinical positions require pre-screening through our Occupational Health department, including a drug test. Employees are required to obtain annual influenza vaccines.
