Senior Mechanical Designer - Sales Applications / 2D AutoCAD Layout
The Effective Syndicate (TES) is recruiting for a confidential industrial equipment manufacturer seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer for a full-time, direct-hire position in Plano, Texas. This position is fully onsite.
Position Overview
This role works closely with a Sales Applications team to translate customer requirements and field information into practical 2D AutoCAD layouts for custom equipment and complete process-line solutions. The primary work occurs before detailed engineering: fitting equipment, conveyors, access requirements, and material flow into existing customer facilities and preparing clear concepts for proposals and customer discussions.
This is not primarily a product-design or manufacturing-detail role. Most of the work is completed in 2D AutoCAD. Experience with 3D CAD is helpful, but it is not the core requirement.
Responsibilities
- Develop accurate 2D AutoCAD layouts for custom equipment and complete processing or material-handling lines.
- Fit proposed equipment into existing customer facilities while accounting for available floor space, existing machinery, access, utilities, maintenance clearances, and material flow.
- Collaborate with Sales and Applications Engineering to turn customer specifications, site measurements, and operating requirements into technically practical concepts and proposal drawings.
- Select and place appropriate equipment and conveyor sections so the proposed system functions as an integrated line.
- Revise layouts based on customer feedback, updated measurements, project scope, and commercial requirements.
- Prepare clear sales-application drawings and supporting documentation for customer review.
- Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to confirm proposed layouts are practical and consistent with company capabilities.
- Support the handoff of approved concepts to the detailed engineering team.
- Participate in customer or internal project discussions as needed.
Qualifications
- Meaningful professional experience in mechanical drafting, industrial equipment layout, applications engineering, CAD design, or a closely related function.
- Strong hands-on proficiency with 2D AutoCAD.
- Experience laying out industrial equipment, process lines, conveyors, packaging equipment, material-handling systems, warehouse systems, or custom machinery.
- Ability to understand equipment placement, facility constraints, access requirements, and material flow.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, dimensions, existing-condition information, and technical drawings.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and customer stakeholders.
- A stable employment history with increasing or sustained responsibility; clearly identified contract assignments are acceptable.
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, product design, or a related field, or comparable directly relevant professional experience.
Preferred
- Sales Applications, Applications Engineering, proposal-design, or customer-facing technical experience.
- Conveyor, packaging, automation, bulk material handling, custom OEM equipment, or systems-integration experience.
- Experience collecting or working from field measurements and existing-facility drawings.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or another 3D CAD platform.
Compensation
Base salary: $75,000-$90,000 per year, depending on relevant experience.
The selected candidate will also be eligible for discretionary incentive compensation based on company performance. Incentive compensation is variable and is not guaranteed.
