Job Summary
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Director of Finance to oversee financial operations, cash flow management, and profitability strategies for our growing transportation and logistics company. Managing financial reporting for our active fleet and operations, you will serve as a key partner to executive leadership—balancing high-level financial strategy with day-to-day accounting, fuel/equipment cost controls, and revenue optimization.
Key Responsibilities Financial Strategy, Cash Flow & Profitability
- Cash Flow & Treasury: Manage daily cash flow, working capital, lines of credit, and banking/factoring relationships to support fleet operations and expansion.
- Cost Control & Fleet Metrics: Monitor and analyze operational financial KPIs, including revenue per mile (RPM), cost per mile (CPM), fuel spend, equipment depreciation, and maintenance overhead.
- P&L Management: Oversee full profit and loss (P&L) statements, financial forecasting, balance sheets, and monthly/quarterly/annual financial closes.
- Budgeting & Planning: Partner with operational leadership (Dispatch, Shop, Safety) to build annual operating budgets and cost-reduction frameworks.
Accounting Oversight & Risk Management
- Oversee billing, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll processing, and driver settlement accounting.
- Direct insurance policy renewals, risk management, claims reserves, and tax reporting/compliance.
- Manage financing, leasing, and capital structure for tractor/trailer acquisitions and equipment maintenance accounts.
- Ensure strict internal controls, financial compliance, and audit readiness across all business entities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial leadership (CFO, Finance Director, or Controller) with direct experience in transportation, trucking, or 3PL logistics.
- Industry Knowledge: Hands-on experience with freight factoring, fuel cards (e.g., Fleet One, EFS), transportation management systems (TMS), and accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, Wave, or enterprise ERPs).
- Financial Expertise: Proven ability to manage cash flow cycles, asset financing, insurance audits, and driver payroll structure.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required; CPA, Master’s, or equivalent preferred.
