Position Summary
Interfaith Sanctuary is seeking a dependable, hardworking Mercy Kitchen Team Member who understands the power of a clean kitchen and loves being part of a team.
At the heart of this position is one essential responsibility: keeping the dishes clean and the kitchen ready so we can prepare and serve amazing, nutritious meals to our shelter guests each day.
A fantastic dishwasher keeps the entire kitchen moving. Clean cookware, utensils, trays, and equipment make every meal possible. This role is vital to the success of Mercy Kitchen and to creating a safe, welcoming, and dignified dining experience for our guests.
The ideal candidate takes pride in a job well done, works efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and knows that a clean, organized kitchen is the foundation of a strong meal program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Multi-tasking/cooking/prepping food and cleaning
- Wash and sanitize dishes, cookware, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment and manual cleaning methods.
- Keep the dishwashing area clean, organized, and operating efficiently throughout each shift.
- Ensure clean dishes and kitchen equipment are available when the we need them.
- Assist with kitchen cleanup before, during, and after meal service.
- Restock clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen supplies in their designated areas.
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize kitchen floors and work areas.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Help maintain clean and organized storage areas, walk-in coolers, and kitchen equipment.
- Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation when needed.
- Receive and organize deliveries when assigned.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Report maintenance, equipment, or safety concerns to the Kitchen Manager.
- Work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and shelter guests to create a respectful and welcoming environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Mercy Kitchen and shelter operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- Previous dishwashing or kitchen experience is helpful, but not required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced kitchen.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain standing for extended periods.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever the team needs support.
- Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance use disorders.

Compensation and Benefits
