SUMMARY Provide support for the daily operations of the school library to foster student learning, promote literacy, and ensure equitable access to library resources and educational opportunities. Perform tasks including circulation, shelving, cataloging, and inventory tasks; supervising students; and assisting students and staff with access to print and digital resources. Support literacy and digital learning; assist with library programs and displays; and help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Assist in daily circulation activities, including checking materials in and out, shelving, and maintaining proper collection order.
Assist in the cataloging, processing, repairing, and inventory of print and digital materials.
Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming library environment for students and staff.
Assist in creating and maintaining displays and promotional materials to encourage reading and engagement.
Monitor and supervise students in the library, reinforcing positive behavior and responsible use of library resources.
Provide small-group or individual assistance to support literacy and digital learning under the direction of the Digital Teacher Librarian.
Assist students and staff in locating materials and using the online catalog, databases, and other digital tools.
Troubleshoot basic technology or equipment issues and report more complex problems to appropriate staff
Reinforce digital citizenship and the safe, ethical use of information and technology resources.
Communicate with students, families, and staff regarding library services, programs, and procedures.
Assist in planning and facilitating library programs, book fairs, and literacy events.
Maintain circulation, inventory, and usage records; and assist in preparing reports as directed.
Perform clerical, filing, and data entry tasks related to library operations.
May be required to operate audiovisual or makerspace equipment and assist staff and students in their use.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience working in a library or school in a instructional/clerical role preferred.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic library operations, circulation practices, cataloging systems, and digital resource management. Basic knowledge of digital citizenship principles, school policies, rules, and procedures. Skilled in performing clerical tasks; organizing and maintaining library materials for easy access; and operating library equipment including computers, printers, and audiovisual or makerspace tools. Skilled in supporting literacy, research, and digital learning for students of diverse ages and abilities. Skilled in troubleshooting basic technology or equipment issues. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families in a clear, professional manner. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and demands. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively under the supervision of the Digital Teacher Librarian.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to push or pull book carts and move materials between library shelving. Manual dexterity for helping students with fine motor tasks and handling books or performing basic repairs on library materials. Vision and hearing sufficient to monitor library activities, communicate with students, and identify safety issues. Stamina to remain active and on feet for extended periods throughout the school day. Must be able to direct or lead students to safety in the event of an emergency or drill.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to concentrate on detailed tasks such as cataloging, data entry, and recordkeeping with frequent interruptions. Ability to read and comprehend lesson plans and teacher instructions. Ability to read, interpret, follow, and instruct others on safety rules. Ability to follow verbal instructions. Ability to maintain awareness of library, student behaviors, and individual needs. Able to provide accurate feedback to teachers on students. High level of patience, especially when working with students who may struggle with classroom behaviors. Ability to adapt to changing schedules, assignments, and technology tools, teaching methods, or student needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in a school library or media center in an elementary or secondary school. May include print and digital collections such as books, periodicals, reference materials, audiovisual resources, and instructional technology. The environment often includes computers, tablets, printers, makerspace tools, and audiovisual equipment used by students and staff. Typical elementary school buildings may also contain computer labs and kitchens. Typical secondary school campus may also contain science labs, computer labs, kitchens, auditoriums, gymnasiums, and possibly specialized shops
