Position Summary
The Contractor Counter Sales Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional service and product expertise to professional contractors and trade customers at the PC Home Center contractor counter. This role focuses on selling trim, casing, base, moldings, fastening systems, specialty boards, stair components, related millwork materials and building materials. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, fast-paced, detail-oriented, and comfortable supporting contractor transactions while building long-term relationships.
Shift/Schedule: *Average 40 hours/week with occasional overtime.
Monday - Friday *8 hour shifts between 7am-6pm + every other Saturday 8am - 4:00pm. * with a day off through the week when scheduled on Saturday.
Sales & Customer Service:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for contractors purchasing trim, millwork, building materials and specialty materials
- Actively sell and recommend products including trim, casing, baseboards, moldings, fasteners, specialty boards (cedar, PVC, primed, hardwood), stair treads, risers, related components and building materials.
- Accurately quote materials, process orders, and ensure completeness of contractor takeoffs
- Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities to increase order value and job completeness
- Provide solutions-oriented service to help contractors meet job schedules and specifications
Product Knowledge & Expertise:
- Maintain strong working knowledge of trim profiles, building materials, specialty boards, stair treads and applications
- Understand fastening systems, adhesives, and accessories used in trim and finish carpentry
- Assist customers with material selection based on job type, environment, and budget
- Stay informed on new products, vendor programs, and specialty offerings
Order Management & Accuracy:
- Enter orders accurately into the system, ensuring correct SKUs, quantities, and delivery or pickup details
- Pull products in warehouse for order fulfillment- full-service drive thru experience
- Proactively resolve order discrepancies, shortages, or special-order issues
- Support contractors with reorders, returns, and job changes as needed
Relationship Building:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with repeat contractor customers
- Recognize customer buying patterns and proactively suggest solutions or stocking programs
- Support PC Home Center’s commitment to being a trusted partner to the professional trade
Store & Team Support:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional contractor counter area and warehouse
- Assist with merchandising and inventory awareness related to trim and millwork categories
Qualifications Required:
- 1+ years of experience in contractor sales, building materials or millwork
- Strong knowledge of trim, moldings, fasteners, specialty boards and building materials
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced contractor-focused environment
- Strong attention to detail and order accuracy
Preferred:
- Experience working at a lumberyard, building supply, or millwork showroom
- Familiarity with POS, order entry, or ERP systems
- Knowledge of stair parts, exterior trim, and specialty millwork products
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods at a counter
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally
- Comfortable working in a retail, or warehouse-adjacent environment
- Can be forklift certified
