Position Description: JOB TITLE: Grinder/Polisher
REPORTS TO: Manufacturing Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly
POSITION SUMMARY: Grinds, smooths and polishes surface of items such as equipment components prior to finishing operations using powered portable wheel, disc or belt grinder.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Polishes stainless and cold rolled steel parts, removing excess material and surface defects.
- Selects grade of abrasive belt, disc or wheel according to grain size, type of finish specified and product being polished.
- Bead blasts steel parts to a consistent finish.
- Loads and unloads tumble deburring machine.
- Examine parts for acceptability of finish.
- Works from drawings and sketches or verbal instructions.
- High level of grip strength and hand function required to grasp parts and
- polishing tools.
- May perform other duties common to grinding and polishing practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must lift, carry and hold parts of various sizes, shapes and weights
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
- Must have good basic math skills
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
- Able to understand blueprints and use basic measuring instruments
- General Education Diploma or equivalent
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs without assistance.- Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
- Must be able to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, climb and walk.
- Standing, walking, sitting, and bending for extended periods of time.
