Location: Baja Coastal Kitchen

Department: Food and Beverage

Status: Seasonal

Pay Rate: $10.98 plus gratuity

Hours/Days: 2 days off. Open availability, 10 AM to 5 PM, 5 PM to 10 PM.

2+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment.

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Bartender is responsible for providing high-quality beverage service to guests in a friendly, efficient, and professional manner. This role is accountable for preparing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to company standards, maintaining a clean and organised bar area, ensuring compliance with alcohol laws, and creating a welcoming guest experience that supports overall restaurant profitability.

KEY PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to company recipes and standards
Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the bar, bar top, wells, and back bar at all times
Accurately ring in all beverages and maintain proper cash and POS handling procedures
Verify guest identification and comply with all state and local alcohol service laws
Engage with guests in a friendly, professional manner to ensure a positive experience
Monitor guest alcohol consumption and responsibly refuse service when necessary
Follow proper handling, storage, and rotation of all beverage products
Communicate effectively with barbacks, servers, and management to support service flow
Assist with opening and closing bar duties
Participate in inventory counts and receiving beverage deliveries
Assist with special events, beach service, or tiki deck operations
Assist in training new bartenders or barbacks as directed by management
Perform other duties as assigned
Perform Oyster Shucking / Barback duties as needed

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Records: Staff will be responsible for all sales tickets and receipts. Lost sales tickets will be written up and lead to termination.
Safety: Staff are responsible for monitoring guest/owner alcohol consumption as well as proper food handling techniques and procedures. Staff are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment and reporting any safety issues to management.
Customer Service: Responsible for making sure that all questions and requests made by guests/owners are addressed promptly and efficiently. Must achieve a high level of service with a focus on exceeding guest expectations.
Dept. Specific: Staff is responsible for meeting sales goals of the Food & Beverage department. Bartenders are required to keep an active and consistent inventory and are accountable for variances in the beverage volumes and counts. Bartenders are to have passion, respect, excellence, motivation, integrity, enthusiasm, and reliability.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

N/A

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, not required.
English verbal communication skills; second language a plus.
Minimum of 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages and knowledge of ABC laws.
Excellent communication skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to multitask.
Possess or has the ability to obtain Alcoholic Beverage Certification and Food Handler permits.
Ability to efficiently operate a Point-of-Sale terminal.
Ability to solve practical problems.
Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business information.

SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT:

Point of Sale equipment
Soda dispensing machines
Serving utensils of varying size and shape
Knowledge of classic and specialty cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits
Ability to operate POS systems accurately
Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Strong communication and guest service skills
Basic math skills for cash handling and transactions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires standing/walking/bending throughout the shift and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
Ability to reach hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.
Ability to walk on varying terrain, including hard floors, tile,e and sand for multiple hours, as well as perform in a hot and humid environment.
Responsible for maintaining hydration at all times.
Walk for long periods of time, possibly over extended distances.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires a varying work environment ranging from office settings with normally moderate noise levels to work outdoors with environments that can be very hot and humid.
Sunglasses and sunscreen are highly recommended, and comfortable footwear is encouraged.
Varied weather conditions are expected.
Will work near moving or mechanical parts.
Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
Each employee is responsible for maintaining hydration at all times.
