Duties
- Safely operate buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations, including emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Transport passengers—including children, students, and general public—while ensuring their safety through proper behavior management and child care techniques.
- Assist passengers with disabilities or mobility challenges by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards such as paratransit requirements.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, perform quick responses to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures when necessary.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective communication skills and multilingual abilities when applicable.
- Follow school policies or transit agency protocols regarding passenger discipline, safety procedures, and behavior management strategies.
- Complete accurate writing reports on daily operations, incidents, or emergencies while adhering to all vehicle codes and local laws governing commercial driving.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus driving, transit bus operation, or commercial driving roles.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, child safety policies, and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse rider groups.
- Demonstrated ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Familiarity with student discipline techniques and behavior management strategies to ensure passenger safety on board.
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt driving accordingly while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
