Overview
Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and become a vital part of maintaining and repairing a wide range of industrial and construction machinery. In this role, you'll leverage your mechanical expertise to ensure heavy equipment operates efficiently, safely, and reliably across various job sites. Your skills in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance will directly contribute to operational goals and objectives. This position will work closely with site managers on a day-to-day basis. Safety is a priority, and the use of PPE and compliance with company and agency policies will be required. This job would be based out of our Defiance, MO location.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair heavy equipment including front end loaders, excavators, dozers, haul trucks, and other industrial machinery using schematics and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) manuals.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil and filter changes, hose replacement, etc.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics on machinery systems including wiring, sensors, switches, and control panels to identify faults and implement repairs.
- Maintain detailed service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
- Operate heavy equipment safely during testing or troubleshooting procedures to verify repairs or diagnose issues effectively.
- Work with site manager in ordering parts, quoting larger jobs; managing and organizing work orders as they arise.
Qualifications
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or similar industrial machinery.
- Familiarity with OEM parts and service standards.
- Ability to work and communicate with vendors to get things done timely and effectively.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, air brake systems, electrical systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) and diesel engines.
- Ability to read schematics, parts, and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other fabrication tools.
- Fabrication experience and welding skills preferred.
- Personal tools are required and can be kept in a secure shop on site.
- Personal maintenance truck preferred, with proper insurance, but not required.
- Experience with vehicle maintenance including plant pick-ups.
- Experience with aggregate plant equipment is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and operate heavy machinery safely in various environments.
