Role Summary
The Fuel & Grease Technician is critical to maintaining the operational readiness and longevity of the heavy mining and haulage fleet. This role is responsible for safely and efficiently fueling, lubricating, and performing preventative fluid maintenance on surface mining equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, tri-axle dump trucks, and stationary plant machinery. The technician ensures all equipment operates smoothly while strictly adhering to environmental, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate fuel and lube service trucks to dispense diesel fuel, grease, oil, coolant, and other essential fluids to heavy surface mining equipment in the active pit and processing plant areas.
- Monitor fluid levels, identify leaks or abnormal wear, and perform routine preventative maintenance on rolling stock and stationary machinery.
- Maintain accurate, detailed daily logs of fuel and lubricant consumption, equipment service hours, and preventative maintenance work orders.
- Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift inspections of the fuel/lube truck and dispensing equipment, ensuring all pumps, hoses, and spill containment systems are fully functional.
- Execute all fueling and lubrication activities in strict accordance with environmental spill prevention, containment, and remediation protocols.
- Comply actively with all MSHA surface safety regulations, hazard mitigation protocols, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures during equipment servicing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Prior experience in equipment lubrication, fueling operations, or preventative maintenance within a surface mining, heavy construction, or industrial environment is required.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements is strongly preferred to legally operate fuel service vehicles.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment fluid specifications, lubrication points, and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Proven commitment to environmental compliance and the safe handling, storage, and transport of hazardous materials and combustible liquids.
- Physical ability to navigate uneven industrial terrain, perform heavy manual labor, climb on and off large mining equipment safely, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Schedule Availability: Must be able to support a continuous 24/7 staggered shift rotation, consisting of four days on and two days off, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
