Lien Negotiation Specialist

Position Overview
The Lien Negotiation Specialist is responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and resolving medical liens and outstanding balances to maximize client recovery at the time of settlement. This role works closely with case managers, attorneys, medical providers, and insurance carriers to ensure liens are accurately documented, negotiated, and resolved efficiently prior to disbursement.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and confident communicating with providers and insurance representatives. Experience in personal injury law and lien negotiation is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Review medical liens, balances, and provider invoices related to settled personal injury cases
- Communicate with medical providers, health insurance carriers, and lien holders to negotiate reductions
- Verify lien amounts and ensure accuracy of billing and supporting documentation
- Track and manage health insurance, Medicare, Medi-Cal, Med Pay, and ERISA liens when applicable
- Maintain organized records of all liens, negotiations, and updates within the case management system
- Work closely with case managers and attorneys to ensure liens are resolved prior to settlement disbursement
- Calculate final lien balances and assist with settlement breakdowns and disbursement preparation
- Follow up consistently with providers and lien holders to obtain updated balances, reductions, and final payoff amounts
- Draft and send lien reduction requests and supporting documentation when necessary
- Identify opportunities for additional reductions based on hardship, limited policy limits, comparative fault, or made whole/common fund doctrines
- Ensure all lien resolutions are properly documented and confirmed in writing
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience with personal injury lien negotiation preferred
- Understanding of medical billing, subrogation, and lien resolution processes
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medi-Cal, ERISA, and health insurance reimbursement claims is a plus
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with case management software (Filevine, CasePeer, or similar) preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
