The Director of Quality plays a critical leadership role in enabling scalable growth by ensuring consistent manufacturing quality across all facilities. Through standardization, continuous improvement, and strong cross-functional collaboration, this leader will help reduce waste, improve operational efficiency, strengthen customer confidence, and establish a culture where quality is embedded in every aspect of the business.
The Director of Quality is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the company's enterprise-wide Quality Management System (QMS) across multiple manufacturing facilities. This role ensures consistent quality standards, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters a culture of quality throughout the organization. The Director of Quality partners closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations while supporting operational excellence, efficiency, and business growth.
This position requires a strategic leader capable of standardizing quality processes across multiple manufacturing operations including contract vendors, while maintaining a strong presence on the production floor and with customers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Quality Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's quality strategy aligned with organizational goals and growth initiatives.
- Establish standardized quality systems, procedures, and metrics across all manufacturing facilities.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Build a culture where quality is viewed as a shared responsibility throughout the organization.
- Mentor and develop quality managers and quality personnel across all locations.
- Establish clear accountability through performance metrics and regular operational reviews.
- Develop and monitor quality inspection audits throughout all facilities.
- Manufacturing Quality
- Ensure consistent execution of quality standards throughout fabrication, welding, coating, assembly, and final inspection processes.
- Standardize inspection methods, documentation, work instructions, and acceptance criteria across facilities.
- Implement robust process controls to reduce variation and improve first-pass yield.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Monitor production quality metrics and implement initiatives that reduce defects, waste, and rework.
- Customer Quality
- Lead investigations and resolution of customer complaints and warranty issues.
- Develop systems that proactively identify trends and prevent recurring customer issues.
- Establish customer quality scorecards and regularly communicate performance metrics.
- Participate in customer audits and quality reviews as required.
- Supplier Quality
- Develop supplier quality standards and qualification processes.
- Establish supplier performance metrics and corrective action processes.
- Partner with Supply Chain to improve incoming material quality and supplier performance.
- Conduct supplier audits when necessary.
- Continuous Improvement
- Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Utilize data analytics to identify opportunities for process improvement and waste reduction.
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives that improve quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop standardized best practices and ensure successful implementation across all facilities.
- Quality Systems & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Develop standardized documentation, policies, procedures, and audit systems.
- Lead internal audit programs.
- Ensure accurate documentation of quality records and performance metrics.
- Performance Management
- Develop and monitor quality KPIs, including:
- First Pass Yield (FPY)
- Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- Rework
- Customer Complaints
- Warranty Performance

To be successful in this position you should be organized and have effective decision-making skills. You should possess a strong leadership skills and maintain a deep understanding of production and operational processes. The ability to work in a team environment is essential to this position as well.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Quality Management, or related field.
- Experience
- 10+ years of progressive manufacturing quality experience.
- 5+ years in a multi-site quality leadership role preferred.
- Experience in metal fabrication, welding, powder coating/painting, or industrial manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Experience implementing enterprise Quality Management Systems across multiple facilities.
- Demonstrated success leading organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
