Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage by contacting insurance companies and reviewing policy details
- Collect and update accurate medical records, including insurance information, medical history, and billing data
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality at all times
- Utilize medical coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document diagnoses and procedures
- Collaborate with medical staff to confirm managed care plans and coordinate benefits for optimal patient care
- Assist in scheduling appointments and managing patient flow within the office environment
- Maintain organized documentation of insurance verification processes and medical records for audit readiness
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a medical or dental office setting with familiarity in insurance verification processes
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Experience with managed care plans and understanding of health insurance policies
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
- Proficiency in handling sensitive information while adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Office experience demonstrating organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of dental office procedures is a plus but not required
