This assessment ensures that candidates possess the necessary knowledge, abilities, and technical proficiency for the role prior to further consideration.
Duties
This position will be home based at an assigned location but will require heavy travel to temporary work locations throughout the TVA service territory.
Although travel may be required across the TVA service territory, TVA will endeavor to avoid extended travel outside of one's region by distributing such assignments to qualified employees closest to the job assignment when possible.
The primary duties as Regional Machinist will be maintenance work, and periodical checking of general operating conditions of mechanical equipment. May be required to support TVA generation construction projects as well as general generation maintenance work.
A minor portion of time will be general maintenance and emergency repairs to mechanical equipment at the assigned home location and other assigned generation assets. This includes the gas turbines, governors, condensers, air ejectors, pumps, pulverizes, fans, heaters, evaporators, coal-handling equipment, traveling water screens, cranes, intake gates, and other pertinent equipment pertaining to the plant and may require cutting with oxygen-acetylene torch, dismantling, and assembling of mechanical equipment, the machining and renewal of parts, and the repair of tools.
May be assigned and will perform other work they are certified/qualified to perform.
Qualifications
The position requires a thorough knowledge of precision machine work and the mechanical characteristics of equipment
installed in the station which includes alignment of and repairs to turbines and turbine equipment, pumps, hydraulic
couplings, compressors, blower, valves, cranes, hoists, governors, and related equipment, as well as the capacity to apply this knowledge to the correct procedure to be followed in all emergencies as well as during routine attention.
High school education or equivalent and/or have five years of documented experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical and plant equipment.
Must have completed a DOL-approved apprenticeship program or a TVA certified machinist or mechanical maintenance training program or equivalent. Must maintain TVA-required classroom computer based mechanical training and certifications.
May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/essential job functions, as well as home site access requirements.
