About The Role
The Fractional CFO at Thurmond Consulting will provide high-level strategic financial leadership, budgeting oversight, and financial modeling for our growing consulting firm. This role focuses on ensuring financial health, optimizing cash flow, building predictable forecasting models, and guiding executive leadership through key business growth decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Growth Modeling
- Develop predictive financial models and ROI analyses for upcoming departmental initiatives.
- Create financial projections and scenario models for staff hiring, compensation structures, and organizational restructuring to ensure profitable scaling.
- Translate operational inputs from department managers and the CAO into long-term cash flow forecasting and capital allocation strategies.
2. Systems Modernization & Infrastructure
- Establish internal controls, automation, standardized templates, and workflows that eliminate manual errors, ensure data accuracy, and save administrative time.
3. Executive Reporting & KPI Dashboards
- Design and deliver recurring reports such as YTD Profitability, Cash Flow Analysis, and Balance Sheet health.
- Build financial KPI dashboards that give ownership and the CEO a real-time, clear view of project profit margins, consultant utilization rates, and overhead costs.
4. Cross-Functional Advisory
- Partner closely with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) on financial administrative activities, and with the upcoming Strategy & Special Projects team to evaluate the financial viability of new business lines.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Minimum 7–10 years of senior financial leadership experience, ideally with a proven track record as a financial manager, CFO, or similar role for high-growth agencies or professional service firms.
- Demonstrated experience guiding a company through a growth curve and scaling.
- Hands-on experience migrating companies onto professional financial software infrastructure.
- Advanced Excel/Financial Modeling skills with the ability to build flexible, automated scenario models for hiring and department rollouts.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Asana, and CRM platforms.
- Ability to travel as needed for leadership / team meetings.
Work Environment
- This is a remote position, though travel and occasional in-person meetings are required.
- Candidates must have a reliable laptop, a stable internet connection, and a dedicated workspace suitable for remote work.
