Sleep Technologist – Local or Travel Contract
Location: Healthcare Facility in Artesia, New Mexico
Schedule: Six on/6 off consecutive night shifts every other week
Hours: 6:45 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
Workdays: Thursday through Tuesday, every other week
Average Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
Compensation: Up to $45/hour local | Up to approximately $55/hr blended travel package
Position Overview
Advantage Staffing Services is seeking a qualified Sleep Technologist for a contract opportunity with a healthcare facility in Artesia, New Mexico. Both local and travel candidates are encouraged to apply.
This position offers a unique block schedule consisting of six consecutive overnight shifts every other week. The Sleep Technologist will work Thursday through Tuesday, followed by an extended period off before the next scheduled block.
Working under the direction of a physician and department leadership, the Sleep Technologist will conduct and monitor diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies, collect and evaluate physiological data, recognize significant clinical events, and support the accurate diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
Compensation
Compensation will be structured according to the candidate’s eligibility and assignment type.
Final compensation will depend on experience, credentials, permanent residence, travel eligibility, and the selected benefits package. Candidates will receive a complete compensation breakdown before accepting an assignment.
Schedule
- Six consecutive overnight shifts every other week
- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday
- 6:45 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Approximately 36 hours per week when averaged across the schedule
- Extended time off between scheduled work blocks
- Every-other-weekend availability is required as part of the regular rotation
- Consistent attendance for the complete six-night block is required
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients, rooms, and equipment for polysomnographic testing.
- Explain testing procedures and help patients feel comfortable throughout the sleep study.
- Apply electrodes, sensors, respiratory devices, and other monitoring equipment according to established protocols.
- Record and measure electrical potentials and other physiological events during diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies.
- Monitor sleep stages, respiratory activity, oxygen saturation, cardiac activity, limb movement, and other relevant physiological data.
- Maintain accurate, high-quality recordings throughout each study.
- Recognize artifacts, equipment malfunctions, and changes in patient condition and make appropriate corrections or adjustments.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to critical or emergency events that may arise during testing.
- Initiate and titrate positive airway pressure therapy when ordered and within the technologist’s training and scope of practice.
- Score, analyze, and prepare sleep-study information and preliminary reports according to facility protocols.
- Maintain, inspect, clean, and disinfect sleep-lab equipment and recording devices.
- Document patient care, interventions, observations, and testing activities accurately and promptly.
- Protect patient privacy and maintain the confidentiality and security of medical information.
- Follow all infection-control, patient-safety, risk-management, and quality-management requirements.
- Provide age-appropriate care and recognize the needs of the patient population served.
- Collaborate professionally with physicians, respiratory therapists, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Perform additional responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following educational pathways:
- Graduate of a Clinical Polysomnography program accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine; or
- Graduate of an NBRC-, AARC-, or CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy program and eligible to sit for the applicable board examination.
Additional requirements include:
- Current New Mexico license or authorization in an applicable category, including:
- CPSGT
- RPSGT
- RRT-SDS
- CRT-SDS
- New Mexico-approved Sleep Technician Trainee
- Thorough understanding of respiratory function and sleep-study procedures.
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Ability to work independently and remain attentive throughout overnight studies.
- Ability to work the complete Thursday-through-Tuesday schedule every other week.
- Current BLS certification preferred at the time of submission. Candidates without current BLS must be able to obtain it within the facility’s required timeframe.
Preferred Qualifications
- RPSGT certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- At least one year of experience in a sleep laboratory, polysomnography setting, or respiratory therapy environment.
- Two years of sleep-lab or respiratory therapy experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience independently conducting overnight diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies.
- Experience with PAP initiation and titration.
- Experience with polysomnographic acquisition, scoring, reporting, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Previous hospital, contract, or travel healthcare experience.
