Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Billing & Collections Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for managing the full revenue cycle, including insurance verification, claim submission, collections, and follow-up. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with commercial payers and understands the importance of accuracy, timeliness, and persistence in maximizing reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance benefits and eligibility prior to services
- Submit accurate and timely insurance claims (electronic and paper)
- Perform aggressive claim follow-up and collections with insurance carriers to resolve denials and delays
- Review and interpret EOBs and ERAs
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, underpayments and denials
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and appeals
- Maintain accurate documentation within EMR and billing systems
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure proper coding and documentation
- Assist with appeals and reconsiderations as needed
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of medical billing and collections experience (required)
- Must reside on Long Island - this is a fully in-office position (no remote)
- Strong experience with insurance benefit verification & eligibility
- Strong experience with claims submission and follow-up
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and medical terminolgy
- Experience working with commercial insurance (Aetna, BCBS, etc)
- Familiarity with EMR and billing platforms (e.g. Nextech, Trizetto preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- **BIG PLUS** Experience in plastic surgery, surgical or specialty billing
- Experience with out-of-network billing
- Knowledge of denial management and appeals process
