Position Summary: Under direct supervision of the Head Chef, the Kitchen Assistant assists with the daily operations of the kitchen, the dining room, and the donation, inventory and dish room areas. The main areas of focus are working alongside volunteers, meal preparation and planning, awareness of inventory and donations and cleanliness. The Kitchen Assistant should be an exemplary representative of Our Daily Bread in the public arena, maintain a professional demeanor and establish good relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and guests.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in the food service industry, inventory control and proper food storage and rotation.
· Serve - Safe certified.
· The ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-pressure work environment adapting to sudden changes when necessary.
· Ability to work appropriately and cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and guests.
· Professional, motivated, and organized with a strong desire to work in the food industry.
· Familiarity with volunteer based organizations and experience working with people from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds.
· Ability to stand and walk for entirety of shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
· Knowledge of nutritionally balanced food preparation, food sanitation, food storage and rotation, food service, inventory control, maintenance of kitchen/dish room equipment.
· Our Daily Bread only uses donated and rescued food. We prefer candidates who have an interest in reducing food waste through creative cooking.
Position Responsibilities:
· Provide coverage in the event of kitchen staff absences.
· Assist Head Chef with preparation and execution of daily meals.
· Ensure timely start of meal service and continuous meal availability during service hours.
· Assist Inventory Coordinator in storing food so that it is easily categorized and accessible.
· Work alongside volunteers to complete tasks required for meal preparation, snack bags, inventory control, hospitality service and cleanup.
· Serve as liaison with “front of house” staff to ensure they have food and beverages they need to serve guests quickly.
· Assist with ongoing food inventory.
· Assist dishwashers to help ensure access to clean plates, trays, utensils and cups throughout meal service.
Team:
· Participate in monthly staff meetings.
· Engage as a full participant in the Our Daily Bread team.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
· Maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.
Hours:
· Part-Time, non-exempt.
· Monday – Friday, 7:00AM - 12:00PM
