Full Job Description

I. SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Structural fitters are responsible for installing steel and other materials that make up a building's frame. They work closely with architects, contractors, and engineers to ensure that all the pieces fit together properly and nothing is missing when construction is complete.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Read Blueprints and understand structural engineering principles
Understand section and plan drawings as well as weld symbols
Must be able to read and derive measurements, dimensions, and quantity of material needed to fabricate a structure
Fabricate, assemble, and install structural steel products such as beams, braces, pipes, and plates for offshore drilling jackets and decks
Use Come-a-longs, chain falls, and other industry tools and equipment, and install, use, and remove stop plates, dogs, and pad eyes

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

NCCER Certified or 5 years of work experience
Must be able to read and speak English
High School Education or equivalent
Possess a valid driver's license
Provide your own personal tool in a lockable toolbox

IV. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:

Reports to the Shop Foreman

V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to lift 40 pounds
Expected to climb and work in high places that may exceed 200 feet in height and in confined spaces
Available for short term travel
