The Head Start Nutrition Coordinator will oversee, develop, and implement program systems that assure the health and safety of Head Start/Early Head Start children. The Nutrition Coordinator will assure all children are provided with appropriately timed breakfast, lunch and snacks in accordance with any Federal, State or local sanitary regulations or nutritional requirements and will work with families to address child's individual nutritional strengths and needs. The Nutrition Coordinator will work across Head Start with family service staff and across QCAP programs to help families develop nutrition awareness, menu planning and food preparation skills and low-cost nutritionally sound recipes. Working in the community, the Nutrition Coordinator will establish on-going collaborative relationships with community organizations to support the optimal nutritional status of low-income children and families.
The successful applicant must have sensitivity to the needs of low income children and families and a strong commitment to their overall health and nutrition. Must have exceptional attention to detail, supervisory and training ability, fiscal aptitude and strong organizational skills to plan, implement, and supervise all activities related to nutrition component of the program including both food service and nutrition education. Perform duties of a Kitchen Manager overseeing aspects of food service including:
- Plan and coordinate menus for the program in accordance with CACFP guidance.
- Coordinate and place weekly orders for food, supplies, and milk in order to provide breakfast, lunch and snack for all children.
- Create alternative menus for children with allergies or Individual Nutrition Plans.
- Provide supervision and guidance for up to 3 Nutrition Assistants.
- Evaluate all food service equipment for condition/appropriateness.
Bachelor’s Degree in in Nutrition is required. Registered Dietitian is preferred. Previous experience with USDA Child Nutrition Programs also preferred. Applicants must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
