Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), CCC-SLP, SLP-CF, Speech Therapist. Speech Pathologist
Location: Johnston County North Carolina
Reports To: Lead SLP
Classification: Certified (Instructional Support)
Term: 10-Month Contract (Academic Year) up to 12 months possible for select needs
Role Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation services for students (ages 3–21) with communication disorders that impact educational performance. In the North Carolina public school system, the SLP is a critical member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, ensuring students can access the NC Standard Course of Study through improved communication, literacy, and social-emotional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment & Identification: Conduct screenings and comprehensive evaluations for speech, language, voice, fluency, and hearing. Analyze diagnostic data to determine eligibility for "Speech-Language Impairment" or related services.
- IEP Development: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop and implement measurable, evidence-based IEP goals.
- Therapeutic Intervention: Provide direct and indirect services (individual, group, or classroom-based) using varied service delivery models (e.g., push-in, pull-out, or consultation).
- Caseload Management: Maintain a schedule across assigned schools; manage documentation in the state-mandated system (ECATS) to meet federal and state Compliance standards.
- Medicaid Billing: Complete timely documentation for Medicaid reimbursement for eligible students in accordance with LEA policy.
- Collaboration: Consult with general education and EC teachers to integrate communication goals into the classroom curriculum.
- Supervision: Provide clinical supervision for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) or Clinical Fellows (CFs) as required by NC Board guidelines.
Required Qualifications & Licensure
- Education: Master’s degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology from a CAA-accredited program.
- Licensure (NC): \*North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) "G" License (Professional Educator's License) is OPTIONAL.
- Must hold a current license from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for SLPA.
- Certification: ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) is preferred (Clinical Fellows are encouraged to apply). CF accepted with strong mentorship supplied.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of the NC Standard Course of Study, IDEA regulations, and evidence-based practices for school-aged populations.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Ability to travel between school sites (valid NC driver’s license required).
- Capacity to handle a variety of items such as assistive technology devices and testing materials.
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage high-stress situations, such as IEP meetings and conflict resolution with families or staff.
