Compensation: Starting at $16.50/hour (based on experience)
Position Summary
The Ballston Area Community Center (BACC) is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic Summer Program Counselors to join our team for Summer 2025. Counselors have the opportunity to work in one of two exciting summer programs—Day Camp (Grades K–5) or the Travel Program (Grades 5–8)—each offering a unique experience for both staff and campers. While the structure of each program varies, the core responsibilities remain the same: ensuring the safety, engagement, and enjoyment of our youth participants.
Applicants may indicate their program preference, but flexibility is appreciated.
Program Options1. Day Camp (Entering Grades K–5)
This traditional summer camp offers seven one-week sessions filled with daily enrichment and fun. Activities include:
- Arts & Crafts, STEM & Classroom Projects
- Gymnasium Games & Team Building Activities
- Daily Swimming Lessons and Free Swim at Ballston Spa Village Pool
- Weekly Field Trips & Special Guests
- Outdoor Play & Group Activities
Counselor Responsibilities Include:
- Supervising and engaging campers in all indoor/outdoor activities
- Creating a safe, clean, and welcoming space tailored to their age group
- Leading and supporting group games, crafts, STEM, and downtime programming
- Escorting children to swim, field trips, and other scheduled rotations
- Practicing direct, active supervision and knowing camper locations at all times
- Providing basic first aid when needed
- Maintaining positive energy, serving as a role model, and promoting kindness and teamwork
2. Travel Program (Entering Grade 5 – Age 13)
This daily field trip-based adventure program runs for 7 weeks, taking campers to various destinations throughout New York State. Each day offers a new experience focused on recreation, exploration, and personal growth.
Counselor Responsibilities Include:
- Supervising and engaging with campers during pre-trip prep, on the bus, and throughout the field trip
- Being assigned a small group of campers daily and ensuring their safety, participation, and well-being
- Supporting children in navigating each trip with responsibility, enthusiasm, and curiosity
- Practicing active supervision and effective communication in busy public environments
- Modeling positive behavior, teamwork, and adaptability
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, recreation, or educational setting preferred
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Ability to work outdoors and be physically active throughout the day
- Must pass background check and meet NYS OCFS requirements
- Reliable, flexible, and committed to the full summer schedule
