The Windham County Humane Society (WCHS) is seeking a full-time Animal Care Technician & Adoption Specialist with a focus on canine care. This dynamic role combines hands-on animal care with customer service and adoption matchmaking, ensuring the highest quality of care for our animals and providing support to our community.
Weekly hours: Friday through Monday 8:30am-4:30pm
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care (Approx. 30%)
· Provide daily care, cleaning, feeding, and enrichment to shelter canines.
· Cleaning! Scoping, scrubbing, washing, and sanitizing animal areas and common areas. Does the dishes and laundry.
· Assist in disease prevention, behavioral care, examinations, and medical treatments.
· Participate in animal intake from the public and animal control, including safe transport.
Adoption & Foster Services (Approx. 30%)
· Facilitate adoption counseling and help match dogs with loving forever homes.
· Coordinate canine placements into foster care.
· Support home-to-home placements and work with owners to explore available resources to keep pets in homes when possible.
Customer Service & Program Support (Approx. 30%)
· Work closely with the public to provide compassionate, solutions-based assistance to help people keep their pets.
· Support smooth shelter operations through intake counseling, follow-up, and program coordination.
· Maintain accurate and detailed records for each animal and client interaction.
Qualifications:
· Prior experience in animal care, shelter work, or veterinary assistance is highly desirable.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate, non-judgmental approach.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment.
· Must be comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments.
· Ability to work one weekend day per week and some holidays is required.
