Position Summary:
Responsible for the accounting operations of the credit union, to include overseeing the accuracy and timeliness of the accounting records, preparation of standard internal and external financial reports, and maintenance of a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of reported results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the recording of the credit union’s financial transactions, maintaining the chart of accounts, managing internal controls over the general ledger to include appropriate reconciling processes are completed timely and accurately, resolution of discrepancies, appropriate use of accounting software applications/tools, and segregation of duties within the department.
- Manage the accuracy and productivity of the daily accounting activities to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset records, financial statement mapping along with reconciliation of workflow of new products and services, and general and subsidiary ledgers.
- Ensure compliance with financial and internal controls to safeguard the credit union’s assets.
- Efficiently and effectively manage accounting functions which include but are not limited to the daily balancing of accounting records and general ledger accounts, Accounts Payable, Bank and ITM reconciliations, ACH activity, investments, GL postings, subsidiary ledger reconciliations, etc. in a timely manner.
- Preparation of internal and external financial reports, which summarize and forecast credit union business activity and accurate financial position, in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Works closely with senior management to ensure accounting estimate are accurate and well-supported. Ensures accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAPP and government regulations. Maintains a documented system of accounting internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws.
- Gathers information, analyzes issues, examines ideas from multiple perspectives, and solves problems in a timely manner with accuracy, clarity, logic, and open-mindedness.
- Provide reports to Senior Management regarding the Credit Union’s financial status for further analysis and decision-making activities that may affect policies, pricing, and services.
- Ensure the Accounts Payable function is kept current and disbursements are allocated to the correct account including proper authorization and recordkeeping.
- Ensure daily balancing and cash position analysis are in balance.
- Prepare a variety of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to be reviewed by Senior Management within an assigned timeline for the credit union and affiliates.
- Perform financial analysis as directed for a variety of committees, on product evaluations, and contract negotiations.
- Assist in project management, implementing new programs/strategies, assist senior management in overall objectives and goals of the credit union and accounting department.
- Adhere to tax laws and regulatory compliance to properly reflect the financial position of the credit union.
- Provides customer service to internal and/or external members, vendors, and employees with accuracy and professional tact.
- Conducts research, composes, prepares, edits, and /or proofs a variety of items such as emails, letters, reports, invoices, memos, PDFs, and spreadsheets using a variety of software suites
- Develops a plan to meet deadlines.
- Consistently work scheduled hours.
- Other duties as assigned and directed by management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with a high degree of competence, initiative, and commitment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 7-10+ years of accounting experience in progressive roles.
- Accounting experience in a financial institution preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of financial accounting concepts, practices, and financial reports.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in independently performing accounting analysis based on relevant fact patterns and accounting guidance, and identifying areas that require judgment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new applications.
- Must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills under stressful conditions and deadlines.
- Must have high regard for detail and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment. Uses a high level of initiative in prioritizing work and performing complex duties. Follows instructions and procedures.
- Must be well-organized and detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and projects.
- Must be able to manage sensitive information in a discrete and confidential manner.
- Ability to communicate professionally with others both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all team members, vendors, members; use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
