Established Pittsburgh-area structural engineering firm is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer (PE) to provide services on an independent-contractor basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a semi-retired PE, independent consulting engineer, or experienced structural engineer looking for additional income and flexible project work without the commitment of a traditional full-time position.
Typical Projects
Work may include:
- Residential and light-commercial structural inspections
- Foundation and basement wall evaluations
- Structural framing evaluations
- Residential additions and alterations
- Decks, porches, roofs, beams and load-bearing wall modifications
- Structural calculations and design
- Preparation and/or review of structural drawings
- Repair recommendations
- Preparation of professional engineering reports
- Other small structural engineering projects
What We're Looking For
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Pennsylvania PE license strongly preferred
- Structural engineering experience
- Residential and/or light-commercial experience preferred
- Ability to perform field inspections in the Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania area
- Ability to work independently
- Professional communication with homeowners, contractors and clients
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to prepare clear, professional engineering documentation
Why This Opportunity Is Different
This is not a traditional 40-hour-per-week position.
Projects can be assigned based upon your availability, experience and geographic location. The arrangement is intended to be flexible.
We are particularly interested in engineers who already have other professional commitments, operate their own consulting practice, or are semi-retired and would like additional engineering work.
Compensation: Competitive and negotiable based upon experience and the type of work performed. Hourly, per-inspection and/or project-based compensation can be considered.
