As a Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and secure environment within our facilities and maintaining public safety in your very own community.
We are hiring Corrections Officers at Nottoway Correctional Center in Burkeville, Virginia! Are you ready to start a stable and meaningful career in Public Safety? Whether you have experience in corrections, security, law enforcement, the military or you are brand new to the field, we provide all of the training you need to succeed as a Correctional Officer. VADOC offers full paid training from day one! You will be provided structured academy-based training with lodging available. As a Corrections Officer, you'll receive all the training needed for success, including defensive tactics, conflict resolution, and policy procedures.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors within correctional facilities.
- Conduct regular surveillance and inspections to identify potential security risks.
- Enforce rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Conduct thorough surveillance using CCTV systems to monitor activities and maintain security.
- Document incidents and prepare reports as required for law enforcement or internal review.
- Collaborate with law enforcement personnel when necessary to ensure public safety.
- Engage in conflict management, de-escalating situations as they arise while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years or older
- U.S. Citizen or legal resident
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Ability to use, possess, and carry a firearm
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening to include a screening for marijuana.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical clearance
Additional Considerations
- Previous experience/interest in corrections, law enforcement, military service, or security roles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and conflict management skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
