Job Title
Head Cook, Trinity Child Care Center (TCCVG)
Job Purpose
Plans, prepares, cooks, and serves meals in large quantities to children of Trinity Child Care; maintains required food service and production records. Plans meals according to nutritional guidelines and special dietary needs, orders food and supplies from vendors; performs other job related duties as required. This position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m-1:30 p.m.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Order food and non-food supplies from vendors.
- Store purchased food and USDA commodities properly, rotating as necessary.
- Create and use rotation menus, as approved by the Director of Trinity Child Care, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
- Record daily, the ingredients and supplies used for preparing the food for the day.
- Prepare food
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness at the standards set by the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Skills and Abilities
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent food preparation and handling skills
- Ability to work within a pre-determined budget
Knowledge
- Knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment
- Knowledge of large-kitchen sanitation and personal sanitation requirements
- Knowledge of USDA nutritional requirements for preschool children and other USDA requirements
Experience
- Experience preparing large quantities of food
- Experience writing Menus
- Experience ordering food and non-food supplies from vendors
- Possess a Food Handler’s Level III or willingness to obtain.
Other
- Must pass a background check
Working Conditions
- Inside in an industrial size kitchen, working with standard kitchen appliances and equipment
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and transfer 50 lbs
- Ability to stand the majority of the day
- Ability to walk, kneel, sit, stoop
Continuing Education and Certifications
- Four hours of training in nutrition and food safety within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
Pay: From $17.31 per hour
