The energetic teacher will work cooperatively with co-teachers in planning, and implementing the Creative Curriculum* for their age group. He/she will assist with assessing, observing, documenting, exhibiting, implementing, evaluating, and planning for each child in developmentally appropriate practices that support and enrich each child’s development and learning. Concerns will be reported to the director so a referral may be made for additional information and services, if needed. Appropriate guidance will be given to children for interactions with peers, adults, and their environment. He/she will set and enforce realistic limits with children for guiding behavior, using logical and natural consequences. Language will be encouraged, as well as independence and problem solving. He/she will assist in maintaining the classroom throughout the day, keeping it organized, and maintaining a clean, sanitary environment.
He/she will be warm, respectful, courteous, understanding, affectionate and friendly. He/she will interact positively and frequently with all children, responding to children’s verbal and non-verbal cues. All interactions with children, families, program staff, public school personnel, therapists, and specialists, and other designated individuals will be handled professionally. All teachers will be required to maintain confidentiality at all times and respect the privacy of the children and families, as well as our program. He/she will: listen to children on their level; comfort, support and guide them in ways that make sense to them, and encourage prosocial behavior through the use of problem solving techniques. He/she will work with, support and complement families in their childrearing roles while being respectful of each child’s culture.
All teachers are expected to comply and respect all rules and regulations of our program, as well as those of DCFS, IDHS, ISBE, JCHD and other designated programs. He/she will answer policy questions in accordance with the Parent Handbook or direct questions to appropriate personnel and maintain rapport with the parents of enrolled children. He/she will interact with parents and children in a relaxed, sincere, and honest manner. Greeting all during arrival and departure is mandatory.
He/she will be an advocate for children and families and build positive relationships throughout the community. He/she will obtain 20 hours of in-service hours during the course of the year, including CPR/First Aid. The staff will notify the director when they are ill or an emergency arises and they cannot be in the classroom. Written requests for time off will be given to Marilyn and a copy to the director.
