Position Title
Bar Manager

Position Summary
The Bar Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Penn Rod and Gun Club kitchen, small games of chance activities, entertainment programming, and daily club operations. This position ensures compliance with all liquor laws, gaming regulations, health codes, labor laws, and PRG policies while maintaining a profitable, member-focused environment.
The Bar Manager is expected to safeguard club assets, maintain strong internal controls in a predominantly cash-based operation, supervise staff, provide excellent customer service, and promote activities that increase membership participation and revenue.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFinancial and Cash Management
- Oversee daily operations of a business handling a high volume of cash transactions.
- Implement and enforce cash-handling procedures and internal controls.
- Reconcile daily cash receipts, register reports, deposits, and gaming proceeds.
- Prepare and verify bank deposits.
- Monitor and investigate cash shortages, overages, and discrepancies.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Control labor costs, inventory costs, and operating expenses.
- Work closely with Post officers, trustees, accountants, and auditors.
Bar Operations
- Manage all bar operations, including purchasing, inventory, pricing, and product selection.
- Ensure responsible alcohol service and compliance with liquor liability requirements.
- Train staff in alcohol awareness and intervention techniques.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and scheduling.
- Monitor customer service standards and member satisfaction.
- Prevent theft, fraud, and unauthorized use of club assets.
Kitchen Operations
- Oversee kitchen operations, food service, and menu development.
- Ensure compliance with health department regulations and food safety standards.
- Monitor food costs, waste, inventory, and purchasing.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to maintain quality and consistency.
- Schedule and supervise kitchen personnel.
Small Games of Chance and Gaming Operations
- Manage all authorized small games of chance activities in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Maintain required records, documentation, and financial reporting.
- Ensure secure handling and accounting of gaming proceeds.
- Train staff on gaming compliance requirements.
- Coordinate audits and inspections as required.
Entertainment and Member Engagement
- Develop and coordinate entertainment programs and special events.
- Schedule bands, DJs, karaoke, trivia, sporting events, and community activities.
- Promote events through social media, newsletters, and local advertising.
- Work with VFW leadership to create activities that increase membership participation and retention.
- Build relationships with entertainers, vendors, and community organizations.
- Evaluate event profitability and member satisfaction.
Personnel Management
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate bar and kitchen employees.

- Coordinate inspections and maintain required permits and licenses.
- Report incidents, accidents, and violations promptly.
- Assist in developing policies that minimize legal and financial risk.
Facility Management
- Monitor cleanliness, maintenance, and appearance of the club.
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure safe and secure operations for members, guests, employees, and volunteers.
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3–5 years of management experience in a bar, restaurant, club, VFW, American Legion, Moose, Eagles, or similar hospitality environment.
- Experience managing cash-intensive operations.
- Knowledge of liquor laws, responsible alcohol service, and liquor liability issues.
- Experience with inventory control and financial reconciliation.
- Strong leadership and employee management skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications.
Preferred
- Experience managing a private club, veterans' organization, or nonprofit social club.
- Experience overseeing kitchen operations.
- Experience with small games of chance or charitable gaming operations.
- Food safety certification.
- Responsible alcohol service certification.
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience.

This position serves as the primary operational leader of the Penn Rod & Gun Club and is responsible for protecting the organization's assets, reputation, licenses, and member experience while ensuring a safe, compliant, and financially sound operation.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
